Mary E. (Klitch) Atherly was born January 8, 1937, in Hammond, Indiana. She received her B.B.A. (1971) from Western Michigan University. Atherly started working for University Museums at Iowa State University in 1978 as an office assistant. She was promoted to curator of the Farm House Museum in 1988 and played a vital role in the growth of the University Museums.
